Magic Engine

Magic Engine is an emulator for the PC Engine console – also known as TurboGrafx 16 in the USA. The machine was designed by NEC in 1987 and saw a few significant upgrades over time. The CD extension from 1988 turned it into the first console to run games on CDs – a pioneer in this industry. For those times, the console was impressive and boosted incredible graphics, excellent processors and an impressive collection of games.

Magic Engine might have been abandoned, but it is still available for free over the Internet and it can still provide access to all those games. It runs on DOS, Windows and Mac OS X – using OpenGL only. It provides access to HuCard and SuperGrafx emulation, Arcade Card emulation, features to save and load games, five player modes and lots of configurations. The user interface is intuitive and fairly simple to use too.
